Retinal Scan

The retina, a layer of blood vessels located at the back of the eye, forms a pattern unique to each individual. The user views a green dot for a few seconds until the eye is sufficiently focused for a scanner to capture the blood vessel pattern. An infrared beam scans the area known as the fovea, located in the center of the retina. The retina pattern is captured and then compared to stored patterns for identification

Retinal scanning provides very high accuracy, provided the user's eye is properly focused. Interference can occur when users wear glasses. Retina scanners have been met with a lot of resistance because many users find an infrared light directed at their pupil annoying and intrusive. Fraudulent deception of the system is highly unlikely.
