Greetings to you and Happy New Year!! What a Blessing it is for each and everyone of us to have another year to look forward to.

For us, 2007 was another blessed year, with ups and downs but then again, God never promised us a smooth ride only a safe landing. On September 25, 2007 we lost our precious Katie Girl after over 15 years of her bringing us joy and happiness. It was so hard the day that we had to let go, yet God somehow carried us as we carried Katie into the Vet’s Office. I know that the angels who loaned her to us for all those years, were happy to see her and in that we have a sense of comfort. Katie was a special companion to all of us. All who had the privilege to know that precious little angel from God could agree.

Everyone loved Katie, but none as much as her family. Sherry and I have grieved daily at her loss and we miss her beyond the expression of words. As I write this into my journal, I can hear her walking up the stairs into my office to lay beside me as I work, yet when I look to my side for her, she is not there. She is however, in a place where she is in the greatest of hands. God creates all creatures and loves each and everyone of them. Therein lies our assurance that after Sherry and I have taken our last breathes, waiting for us on the other side will be our Katie girl. She’ll be as young, vibrant and bouncy as she was for those many years before age and Cushings Disease took their final toll. We love our Katie Girl and will miss her the remainder of our days here on earth.

Book Update

My next book, the much anticipated story of my struggle at and back from the brink of death in 2005, is now complete. I am in the process of finishing the initial editing and preparing my plans for eventual publications. I have no dates of announcements as to when to expect this book to be released, only that I am praying that if will come at the time that God intends for it to. Please keep this effort in your prayers that God will guide the right people to the right place and time for this book to fulfill its intent.

My wife, Sherry, and I just returned from our first extended vacation together since October of 2004. There have been so many things to do and challenges to overcome, that there was little time and at times little money to spend as I was buildng up a couple of businesses.  Thanks to God, things have begun to slow to a point where this summer I actually had some time to myself which of course was a prime time to spend with my bride as well.

We made a trip to the Southeast for a National Car meet in Savannah, GA and then went on to visit our dear friends Roger and Carol in South Carolina. If you recall from my journal entry of May 18, 2006, Carol was at that time seriously in need of a kidney and liver transplant.

For those of you who read that journal post and included Carol in your prayers, I can report to you that our prayers were indeed answered. Carol did receive her new kidney and liver, although at the expense of another’s untimely death, (and we pray for that unknown person’s family) and like me, is a walking talking miracle.

I remember when last year we fist learned of Carol’s dire circumstances, and praying to God that I could not imagine Sherry’s and my life without her. Seeing, talking and enjoying her company during our trip was such a great blessing.

Speaking of being a walking talking miracle, after taking some time for reflection on my current project about my experiences at the brink of death just a year prior to Carol’s, I have swung into high gear and I am once again, pounding away at my computer, making progress on that book. I will admit, I had stumbled quite a bit when I began to reach the sections of this book where I had to describe the process of fading from reality not knowing if I had passed out or passed away, and reawakening to find myself in grave condition.

It has been harder than I thought to write about this, hence my leave of absence from writing. I am still in a difficult section of this project, but since my time of reflection, I am know reenergized and making great progress. I hope to have this book done this fall, so that I can start the process of publishing as soon as possible.

Stay tuned for more as my work progresses.

Thanks again to all and may God Bless you all.

In Loving Memory of our Katie Girl

Life sure does get the best of us the busier we get. I’ve been on the road all but three weeks so far this year, which has made keeping up with this web site and my journals a task that takes a back seat.

I continued to be amazed and humbled by the response to my book. Twice a year, my Publishers, Publish America, send out our royalty and sales statements. Expecting to see a drop off in sales from last year, I was floored by my most recent report. Sales of The Rat Race are growing by almost 100%!!! I still cannot believe it.

Thanks to my publisher, Rat Race is now available from over 49 on line sources and in every major book store.

Also, last month I received an awesome review from the Kansas City Business Journal. It is so fulfilling to actually have people contact me with comments about how reading has made a positive difference in their lives. How blessed can one be!

This summer, I will be doing an on line discussion for Douglas Publications about the communications challenges of working in Corporate America, in which I will be using what I wrote in Chapter 7 of my book “Thriving to Run Ahead.”

I hope to get back to working on my next book, “Back from the Brink of Death” soon, so that I may be able to get it on book shelves sometime next year. If you are wondering about this book, it is my personal story of spending 10 days on life support two years ago and the amazing journey of grace through miracles that allowed me to survive.

Stay tuned for more as my work progresses.

Thanks again to all and may God Bless you all.

Can you believe it! Another year almost past and so many things left to do! Isn’t that the thought that begins to creep across our minds about this time of the year?

I hear that phrase from my wife, Sherry, almost hourly about now. She is such a busy bee with an innate ability to always say, “Yes” when asked to lend a hand or to take on a new challenge. That’s one of the many reasons why I love and admire her so much. What a joy to be married to someone as gracious and giving as her. A good quality that she has also passed down to our two sons as well!

During this Holiday Season, what is your capacity to take some time to lend a hand or to take on a challenge that will benefit another? That is the spirit that we should not only be living in during the Holiday Season, but in each and every season! God tasks us with many opportunities and challenges during our lifetimes, yet how often do we answer the call to step up and make a difference? The answers lies in your willingness to look past yourself and into others. It is a big and beautiful world that God has created for us. Our thanks to him for this wondrous creation is to be a good steward of it and all that is contained with in it. That includes your neighbors both literal and figurative.

Being a good steward involves not only taking care of our world but also taking care of those who are in need. Many people will be cold, hungry and alone this year. I challenge you to be a little bit like Sherry. There are always a few hours to spare no matter how hectic you think your life is. And remember to not only be a Sherry during the busy Holidays but be a Sherry everyday! There are no desperate housewives or husbands in the fraternity of the gracious and the giving, I can guarantee it!

Last of all, thanks to all who came out to my last book signing at Barnes and Noble on November 25th. We had a great turn out and made a lot of new friends!

As Always God Bless You All!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Shame on me for not updating my journal for such a long time. It just goes to show you that I have been busy for quite some time.

This “busy-ness,” has taken me away from really working hard on my book promotions, so I need to get back on track. So far, the response to my book has been phenomenal! So many of my readers are writing me and giving such wonderful feedback on my book. That is a very heartwarming and humbling experience.

As many of you know, the purpose of my writing this book was not for fame and fortune (my fortune awaits me in another time and another place) but to have a positive impact on people’s lives!

Just last night I was talking to a person who had just finished reading The Rat Race. While we were talking she was writing something down on a pad of paper. I asked here what she was writing, and she said, “Oh, I am formulating and writing down my personal mission statement, just as you suggested in your book.” WOW, what greater reward can I ask for than that? This person also wrote a posted a nice review of her impressions of The Rat Race on Amazon.com, which brings me to me next point, a request.

If you have read my book and would like to leave a comment of your impressions, please go to this link:

Amazon Book Review

and write me a few lines along with a rating of how good, or bad, you thought my book was. I would sincerely appreciate the comments.

I have one more book signing scheduled for this year and it should be a biggie! Please make note of the date, Saturday November 25, 2006 @ 1:00pm at the Barnes and Noble Town Center, Leawood, KS. This is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so I’m hoping to have a large turnout.

As the winter months approach, so is writing season. I am hoping to finish or at least make a significant dent in my next book which is my story of how I survived my near death experience in 2005 and my long road to recovery. I am keeping the title of this book under wraps for the time being, but I hope to make an announcement soon as to the title and publishing date. This book is going to be a departure from the genre of The Rat Race, but I felt that it was a book that needed to be written before I get back to any Rat Race business (yes there are more Rat Race books coming).

I hope to see many of you at my next signing in November. Please keep spreading the word about the Rat Race!

God Bless!

With my first round of book signing events now over, it is time to reflect back on lessons learned before round two begins this fall.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to come out to my signing events and also to all of you who happened to be in the area and stopped by to see what this crazy guy was doing sitting in the middle of a book store surrounded by books and with pen in hand.

To sum things up, I had a blast!!

Not to say that each event was a rousing success. Most were, but some were not. I learned that some times of the day and days of the week are better than others. The events in my hometown of Lawrence, to my surprise, were the most dissapointing. I am going to schedule some more evetns in Lawrence this fall, but I am also going to be a bit more selective about when and where. That is lesson one that I learned, timing is everything.

As for the others, they were all very successful. My last three book signings were all held at Barnes and Noble stores and all that I can say is that the folks at all three Barnes and Nobles treated me like royalty. I am grateful for their support in promoting my book signing events. I will be coming back to a couple of the Barnes and Nobel stores that I visited as I was invited by the store managers to do so.

My biggest surprise was at the Barnes and Nobel in Reston, VA. When I arrived on June 29th, I saw that there were fewer than the usual number of books setting on the table where I was to be stationed. The store manager , Angela can by and informed me that several copies had already been purchased by casual shoppers in the days prior to my arrival. WOW, I was floored by the response and grateful to those folks in Virginia. Thank you so much for your support.

I am going to take a bit of a break from signing books for awhile. I need to collect my thoughts and get back to some other projects, namely getting back to work on my new book, Back from the Brink.

Thanks again to all and as always;

God Bless!

The 6News segment and article in the Lawrence Journal were all beyond our wildest expectations. My thanks to Mark Fagan the Business Editor for the Journal World for his willingness and hard work to make this happen. You can view both from my Press Information Page.

Thanks to all who stopped by for our private reception on May 7th. Also my thanks to all of those who stopped by to have their books signed that were contributors to the book. I still think we were able to maintain their anonymity!

There are five book signings for the Rat Race scheduled this month and next. I will be visiting Borders Books and Hastings in Lawrence, KS and Barnes and Noble stores in Topeka, KS, Leawood, KS and Reston, VA in the coming weeks. I am very excited and looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones! A complete listing of all books signings can be found on the home page and the Book Signings Page.

A special side note. A dear friend of ours, Carol Dolida and her family are in urgent need of your prayers. For those of you who know Carol, you all know that she is THE role model for courage. Carol has endured numerous health and personal issues that never once dampened her bright and sunny outlook on life. Carol is dearly loved by her friends and family and as of this writing, is fighting for her life in an ICU in Charleston, SC. Whether you know Carol or not, please take a moment to ask God to comfort and strengthen her, her husband, son and daughter.

We all love you Carol, more than you will ever know and are praying diligently that God will keep you with us for many years to come.

Things are beginning to happen so rapidly, I’m needing to pinch myself every few seconds or so just to make sure it is not a dream.

First of all, The Lawrence Journal World is interviewing me for an article in their newspaper and possibly for a story on their 6News Cable News Program. I’ll let you all know what and when to expect something

I also have begun to schedule some book signings.

April 7, 2006

I’m beginning to hear from many of my readers, that they have received their books and are now reading them. In most cases, the books are arriving in the two - three day time frame as advertised by the many on-line distributors.

I am also getting quite a few inquires as to how you can get your books signed. I am planning several book signing events in the Lawrence, Topeka and Kansas City areas in May June and July. I will be posting a book signing link on this web site once I have secured some dates that will have time and location information. If you would like to be notified via E-mail as to when I will be in your area, click on this link --> Book Signing E-mail List and let me know what City and State you are from.

I will be traveling this summer and fall to the Washington D.C. area and the Carolinas, so if enough of you in those locations are wanting your books. signed, I will try and schedule events while I am in those area.

The release date for the Rat Race, May 8, 2006, is fast approaching. I know that there is still much to do, calls to make, press kits to mail and so on. I want to once again say thanks to all of you for you support and encouragement. I look forward to hearing from you once you have read my book

God Bless!

March 30, 2006

WOW is all I can say! I am overwhelmed by the response from my many friends, students and colleagues since we sent out a few E-mails last week announcing that the The Corporate Rat Race: The Rats Are Winning, was available for pre-release ordering.

I am blessed and lucky to have so many dear friends and family that are truly interested in my work and have taken the time to write such nice congratulatory messages in my Guest Book. There have also been many orders placed for my book, for which I am also deeply grateful and humbled by.

I was commenting to a friend of mine who told me the other day that he had ordered my book, that I felt like an expectant father! Now that the world has access to my labor of love, how will they react? Will they like it, hate it, or be indifferent to it? All authors go through these “labor” pains when they see their hard work come to fruition so I guess I’m not alone.

In the coming weeks, we will be sending out copies of the Rat Race to the media for reviews etc. but your feedback is what is most important. If you have honored me be reading the Rat Race, then please leave a review or comment for others to read at the site from where you purchased my book.

Potential book buyers value the opinions of their fellow readers and it goes a long way towards the eventual success of an author’s works.

Thanks again to all and may God Bless!
